Materialien

PLA

Polylactide
Clean models & high detail

PLA is the best choice for clean visual models, precise prototypes and indoor presentation parts. It offers excellent surface quality and detail accuracy, but it is not suitable for heat, direct sun or mechanically demanding use.

Very stiff50–55 °C max.Best surface qualityIndoor use

Mechanical propertiesVery stiff and hard. Under overload, PLA tends to break rather than deform.

Temperature resistanceUp to approx. 50–55 °C. Not suitable for car interiors or direct sunlight.

AdvantagesExcellent surface quality, maximum detail accuracy and high dimensional stability.

DisadvantagesLow heat resistance and not weather-resistant. Best for indoor use only.

Printing restrictionsNo major restrictions. Overhangs, complex geometries and fine details can usually be printed very well. Supports are generally easy to remove.

ApplicationsDesign models, architecture models, form-check prototypes, accurate housings without load and decorative parts.

Vermeiden beiNicht für Kfz-Innenräume, direkte Sonne, Außeneinsatz oder tragende Bauteile.

PETG

Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol
Durable all-round functional parts

PETG is a strong all-round material for functional parts. It combines stability with slight flexibility, is impact-resistant and works well for holders, brackets, housings and parts that may be exposed to moisture or outdoor conditions.

Tough70–75 °C max.Weather-resistantWater-repellent

Mechanical propertiesTough, impact-resistant and slightly flexible. Under overload, PETG tends to deform before it breaks.

Temperature resistanceUp to approx. 70–75 °C.

AdvantagesGood balance between stability and flexibility, weather-resistant, UV-resistant and water-repellent.

DisadvantagesSlightly glossy surface where imperfections may be more visible. More prone to scratches than PLA or ABS.

Printing restrictionsCan show slight stringing on the surface. Due to very strong layer adhesion, support structures can be harder to remove and may leave traces.

ApplicationsMechanical parts, brackets, workshop fixtures, outdoor housings, electronics boxes, holders and functional prototypes.

Vermeiden beiWeniger ideal, wenn eine maximal saubere Oberfläche oder sehr einfache Stützentfernung im Fokus steht.

ABS

Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene
Tough technical parts

ABS is suitable for tougher technical parts that need higher mechanical strength, better heat resistance and good post-processing options. It is useful for automotive accessories, durable housings, tools and replacement parts.

Impact-resistant85–90 °C max.Post-processableTechnical parts

Mechanical propertiesVery impact-resistant, scratch-resistant, tough and suitable for long-term mechanical use.

Temperature resistanceUp to approx. 85–90 °C.

AdvantagesHigh thermal and mechanical resistance, good abrasion resistance and easy post-processing such as sanding or drilling.

DisadvantagesWithout post-treatment, ABS can be sensitive to UV exposure and may yellow outdoors.

Printing restrictionsABS shrinks strongly while cooling and can warp, especially with large, flat or massive parts. Fine filigree details are usually less precise than with PLA.

ApplicationsTechnical functional parts, automotive accessories, gears, heavily used tools, housings, covers and replacement parts.

Vermeiden beiWeniger ideal für große flache Modelle, sehr filigrane Details oder Außeneinsatz ohne Nachbehandlung.

TPU

Thermoplastic Polyurethane
Flexible protection & damping

TPU is a flexible, rubber-like material for parts that need to bend, absorb impact or protect other components. It is ideal for dampers, seals, protective covers, anti-slip feet and elastic connections.

Flexible60–70 °C max.Shock-absorbingOil-resistant

Mechanical propertiesHighly flexible, rubber-like, extremely tear-resistant and permanently elastic.

Temperature resistanceUp to approx. 60–70 °C. Remains flexible even at low temperatures.

AdvantagesExcellent shock absorption and damping. It does not break or splinter and has good resistance to oils and greases.

DisadvantagesNo structural stiffness. Not suitable for parts that need to hold a rigid shape under load.

Printing restrictionsOverhangs and unsupported bridges are difficult to print cleanly because the material is soft. Complex geometries that require support structures are often not practical, as the support can fuse with the part and may not be removable cleanly.

ApplicationsSeals, shock absorbers, protective covers, sleeves, anti-slip feet, elastic connections, flexible inserts and dampers.

Vermeiden beiNicht geeignet, wenn strukturelle Steifigkeit oder saubere Überhänge nötig sind.
